Format:
- There will be two divisions, League “A” and League “B”, each having
8-6 teams, respectively.
- Each team will have a maximum of 6 members.
- The cost will be $42 per team. Team captains are responsible
for collecting the entry fees.
- Within each division, regular league play will be a round robin.
- On completion of the round robin, the top four teams in each
division will play off (1st vs 4th, 2nd
vs 3rd, the winners to advance to the division final) to
determine which team will advance to the inter-divisional playoff for
the Fraser’s Trophy.
- For regular league play and the divisional playoffs, matches will be
9 holes.
- The inter-divisional playoff will be an 18-hole match, played, over
two evenings, from the red/blue tees.
- For all playoffs, the team with the higher match play point total
wins the match. No bonus points will be awarded. In the
event of a tie, the group finishing last will play a sudden death match,
beginning at the first tee, with handicap strokes taken in the usual
manner.
Match Format:
- During regular league play the matches will be 4-ball handicap
matches. Each team will field two 2-golfer sides for each evening of
competition.
- To begin each season, handicaps will be assigned by the league
conveners based the previous year’s league handicap, or on current club
handicap, with consideration given to the RCGA rules governing
competitions between men and women. Subsequent handicap
adjustments will be made following each scheduled match. The
adjustments will be as indicated in the following table:
| Net
Score |
Handicap Change |
| 32 or less |
-2 |
| 33 - 34 |
-1 |
| 40 or more |
+1 |
- In subsequent seasons, the handicaps will be carried over from the
previous season.
- The minimum handicap for the white or yellow tees will be 3, and for
the red or blue tees 2.
- The maximum will be 18.
Tee Times
Each week, the team captain or designate is responsible for posting tee
times on the signup sheet, which is attached to the League A bulletin board.
Scoring System:
Match points
- Holes will be decided based on best net score for each side, one
point for each hole won and a half point for each hole tied.
Bonus points
- Bonus points will be awarded on a team basis according to the
following scheme. Each league night the best 3 net scores (not
using Equitable Stroke Control - ESC) from each team will be added.
The team totals will be ordered lowest to highest, ties being broken
where possible using the net scores of the fourth players. Each
team will be awarded half a point for each team below it in the list.
- Team standings will be determined by the accumulated match and bonus
point totals in the round robin competition.
Short-handed Team:
- Teams with fewer than 4 players on any one evening will receive no
compensation in the match play portion of regular competition. For
the awarding of bonus points, teams with only 3 players will have all 3
scores added. In the case of ties such teams will be the last of
the tied teams. Teams with fewer than 3 players will be placed
last overall in the bonus point ranking.
- Where a team fails to field any players (or eligible substitutes)
for a match, their opposition, to be eligible for bonus points and low
net prizes, must complete a regulation 9-hole round and submit their
scores in the normal fashion. For their “win” the side without
opposition will be awarded points for the match equal to one more than
was made by the most successful side that evening playing with
opposition, to a maximum of nine points.
Equitable Stroke Control (ESC):
- ESC determines the maximum number of strokes on each hole that can
be claimed for handicap purposes.
| Handicap
Range |
Maximum Allowed |
| 2 - 4 |
2 over par |
| 5 - 9 |
7 |
| 10 - 14 |
8 |
| 15 - 18 |
9 |
Incorrect Handicaps:
If any player uses a handicap higher than the correct handicap, a penalty
of 3 points will be deducted from the team’s total points.
Prizes:
- Following each match night, the field will be divided, as closely as
possible, into three equal groups, by handicap. Vouchers will be
awarded, within each of three handicap ranges, to the golfer(s) with the
lowest net score (not using ESC). No player may win more than two
low net vouchers in any one season.
- On the completion of the round robin, the money remaining in each
Division pool will be distributed to the top four teams in each division
as follows:
| Position |
Percentage |
| 1st |
~40% |
| 2nd |
~30% |
| 3rd |
~15% |
| 4th |
~15% |
- Prizes will be in the form of vouchers redeemable at the pro shop or
snack bar.
Substitutes:
- Substitutes are allowed to a maximum of 2 per team per night.
They must be unlimited members, but may be from the other division, or a
non-league player.
- Substituted non-league players handicap allowance will be one stroke
less than their current club handicap for the tees
being played, or, for substitutes who play in either league division,
their handicap in that division for the tees being played.
- Substitutes are limited to a maximum of 2 substitutions on any one
team per season. Violation of this rule will result in a 3 point
penalty.
Tee Rotation:
As indicated on the schedule, play will rotate through the white, yellow,
red and blue tees.
Continuous Putting:
Continuous putting is mandatory.
Establishment of Team Rosters:
Division conveners retain the position of final arbiter.
Late Starting:
Play from the first tee will be delayed for only three minutes.
Late arrivals will be awarded net bogeys for holes missed (for handicap
determination). These scores will not figure in the match play.
The scores of late starters will not be used in bonus point determinations.
Slow Play:
Matches that are begun at the 3rd (or 12th) hole
will be allowed to proceed directly to the first (or tenth) tee when they
make the turn to complete the remaining two holes, but only if they complete
play on the 9th (or 18th) hole before 7.00 pm.
After that time they will have to place a ball in the rack as though for a
second nine, and take their turn with non-league members waiting to get on
the course.
Blatant slow play will be met with penalties of up to 3 points.
Golf Rules / Etiquette Reminders:
- The maximum allowable time to look for a lost ball is five minutes.
- A provisional ball should be played whenever it is possible that a
ball may be lost or out of bounds.
- First tee honours will be decided by a coin toss. On
subsequent holes the honour will go to the winners of the previous hole.
- While match play rules generally apply, in order to establish bonus
points and handicap changes, the ball must be holed out on every hole.
Inclement Weather:
Unless otherwise notified by team captains, players should be ready to
play at their designated times. Matches should be played as scheduled,
except where the weather conditions pose a hazard to the players (for
example, lightning) or reasonable enjoyment is denied any of the players (by
continuous heavy rain, for example) or play may cause unacceptable damage to
the course (as determined by the Greens Chairman, or designate).
Postponement will usually be by mutual consent of the team captains or
designates. Such agreements should be made before the scheduled
starting times, and should also specify the date and time for the
rescheduled match(es). Postponed matches should be played within one
week. They
must be completed before the next scheduled match.
In the interests of equity, where some matches are interrupted or
postponed due to inclement weather, the following applies:
- If half or more of the scheduled matches are completed despite the
weather, only participants in those matches will be considered for
individual, low net prizes.
- If fewer than half the scheduled matches are completed, individual,
low net prizes will be awarded based on the results of all of the
matches that are completed within one week of the scheduled evening
Once play has started the following rules apply:
- A completed match stands.
- Holes played in an uncompleted match stand.
- The remaining holes are to be played at the earliest time convenient
to both teams, within one week.
- If any of the original players are unable to take part in the
rescheduled match or in the completion of an interrupted match a
substitute may be used, subject to the conditions of Rule 4. Such
substitutes will not be eligible for low net prize vouchers.
